Ni mientas ni te hundas: usa el puente. «Not in production, no. I've used Docker daily and I've deployed to ECS, so the concepts map over». Añade tu nivel real («I wouldn't call myself proficient yet»), el tiempo que necesitarías («a couple of weeks and someone to ask») y devuelve una pregunta: «is it central to the role?».

Por qué te hacen esta pregunta

Nadie cumple el cien por cien de una oferta, y el entrevistador lo sabe: la pregunta mide honestidad y velocidad de aprendizaje, no cobertura. Un «sí» inflado se cae en la repregunta siguiente y contamina todo lo que habías dicho antes. Además, matizar en inglés es difícil: hace falta vocabulario preciso para decir «lo he tocado, pero no soy experto» sin sonar ni a mentira ni a disculpa.

Errores típicos de hispanohablantes

  • Decir «I know it» para todo. Gradúa: «I've touched it», «I've used it a bit», «I'm comfortable with it», «I know it inside out».
  • Traducir «tengo nociones» como «I have notions». Se dice «I've got the basics» o «I'm familiar with it».
  • Decir «I never worked with it» sin el auxiliar. El presente perfecto necesita «have»: «I've never worked with it», no «I never worked with it».
  • Decir «I'm expert». En inglés es un sustantivo: «I'm an expert in…», o mejor «I'm very comfortable with…».
  • Prometer «I can learn it fast» sin prueba. Añade el antecedente: «I picked up Go in about a month on the payments project».

En resumen: Mentir aquí se detecta en la repregunta siguiente. La fórmula honesta es: no + lo más cercano que sí sabes + cuánto tardarías + una pregunta. «I wouldn't call myself proficient yet» reconoce un nivel bajo sin hundirte.
